Acid Reflux

 Acid reflux is a common health condition which occurs when stomach acid rises up into the Lower Esophageal Sphincter (LES). This acid is also known as hydrochloric acid; a very harsh compound which aids in the break down of foods within the stomach as well as aiding with the protection of bacteria in the body.

Some common risk factors may include:

– Overeating during meals and lying down immediately afterwards

– Eating before going to sleep

– Overconsumption of foods which are highly acidic, high in sodium, or spicy/greasy

– Consumption of alchohol and/or caffeine

– Obesity

– Smoking

– Some medications



Some common symptoms may include:

Heartburn: a discomfort (burning sensation) occuring in the esophagus, which travels from the stomach up to the chest and throat area.

Regurgitation: an acid consisting of a sour, bitter taste which becomes congested in the throat or mouth.



Below are some foods to include in your diet which may help acid reflux symptoms:

– Oatmeal

– Ginger

– Aloe vera

– Fennel

– Parsley

– Vegetables with high water content; cucumbers, celery
