Anxiety is part of the normal range of human emotions. Most people experience it from time to time as a reaction to stress, for example before an exam or a public performance. Sometimes, however, this occasional response becomes persistent and can never be completely switched off, greatly impacting a person’s everyday life.

Signs & Symptoms of Anxiety

The patients who come to our clinic in Jerusalem for issues related to anxiety report symptoms such as:

  • Restlessness and racing thoughts
  • Disturbed sleep
  • Nervous habits (such as nail biting)
  • Muscle tension
  • Heart palpitations, breathlessness, dizziness
  • Panic attacks

Over time, chronic anxiety can also produce symptoms of high blood pressure or digestive and skin issues.

Causes of Anxiety

In our experience, the main cause of anxiety is often an emotional one. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, it is well understood that issues such as:

  • Long term stress
  • Acute or prolonged trauma
  • Repressed emotions

can all affect the normal physical balance of the body and trigger symptoms of anxiety.

Of course, a person’s diet, lifestyle and living environment can also cause or aggravate anxious emotional states.

How we treat Anxiety

At the Nei Jing center of Chinese Medicine, we have noticed that anxiety and emotional stress are very often involved in many of the problems our patients experience. Because it is so common, it has become one of our priorities to address anxiety in all its forms, using:

  • Acupuncture and laser acupuncture
  • Chinese herbs
  • Tuina massage and cupping
  • Reflexology
  • Lifestyle and dietary advice

All of these methods, used on their own or in combination with counselling, are very safe and powerful ways to treat anxiety symptoms.

People Say

I’ve been so anxious most of my life that it had become like a natural state of mind. I would stop breathing, or grind my teeth, and it would take me forever to notice. I had insomnia, and very frequent digestion problems. When I started acupuncture and reflexology, I saw improvements very quickly. It still took about six months to feel like I had fully recovered, and today I feel a lot more peaceful, and I also find it a lot easier to recognize stress in my life and take care of it before it becomes too much. Thank you Nei Jing for all that you’ve taught me!

People Say

I have almost no anxiety now, except for these few moments at my job when the work piles up, but they are usually short and rare. I don’t take drugs anymore, my panic attacks are gone, and I feel like I can breathe freely and fall asleep easily. I first came to Nei Jing two years ago, initially for back pain - that turned out to be related to anxiety! - and the treatment that I received there changed my life. I feel healthy and energetic now, much more than I would have thought possible before.
