Cardiovascular Disease

Cardiovascular diseases refers to a category of conditions that involve the heart and the blood vessels around it. Among the most common are coronary artery diseases, arrhythmia, heart valve problems and congenital heart diseases. These conditions are the leading cause of death globally, but thankfully, most of them can be successfully prevented and treated.

Signs & Symptoms

Symptoms may vary, and sometimes not be noticeable at all. In our experience, the most common are chest pain and discomfort, shortness of breath and heart palpitations. Other manifestations include:

  • Nausea
  • Dizziness, tiredness
  • Pain or numbness in the arms and legs
  • Swelling in the legs

If you experience sudden severe chest pain, breathlessness, sweating and lightheadedness, seek emergency medical attention. A heart attack can also sometimes feel like a sudden indigestion with strong nausea and fatigue, especially in women.

Causes

The most common cause or cardiovascular disease is atherosclerosis, a buildup of fatty plaque in the arteries. It has been linked to:

  • High blood pressure
  • An unhealthy diet
  • Excessive consumption of alcohol and caffeine
  • Being overweight
  • Lack of exercise
  • Smoking

To our knowledge, genetics, diabetes, chronic stress and the use of certain medications are other possible causes of cardiovascular disease.

How we treat it

At the Nei Jing center in Jerusalem, experience has shown us that Chinese medicine can be a very effective part of the treatment and prevention of heart disease. Moreover, Chinese pulse diagnosis is also able to diagnose changes in the blood flow to the heart even in the early stages.

For each of our patients, we construct a personalized treatment plan that may include:

  • Acupuncture and laser acupuncture
  • Chinese herbs
  • Tuina massage and cupping
  • Reflexology
  • Lifestyle and dietary advice
