Vulvar vestibulitis (also called vulvodynia) is a type of chronic pain that affects the vulvar area, where the entrance of the urethra and vagina are situated. Though common during perimenopause, it can affect women of any age and severely reduce their quality of life, making ordinary activities very painful and causing emotional distress.

Signs & Symptoms
Vulvar vestibulitis us characterized by abnormal sensations in the genital area. Our patients report symptoms such as:
- Burning, stinging, swelling, itching in the genital area
- Severe pain with attempted penetration
- Pain upon coming in contact with clothes, or when sitting on a bicycle
- Pain that can persist for several days after sexual intercourse
- Alternatively, constant pain that does not go away
- Frequent urges to urinate

Causes
